What is going on with AMTRAK and schedules??? I go on AMTRAK Status and everyplace I look trains are late. By late I mean 2,3,5, and even 7 hours and more. Is this a "slowdown" perpetrated by unions?? Is this being done intentionally by someone?? Is this due to the larger than expected...

It seems almost a daily occurrence but here is a late example. On 7-19 the Empire Builder #8 due in at Chicago at 3:55PM arrived at 6:17pm and then on 7-20 the #8 was into Chicago at 7:16pm. The #30 to D.C. leaves at 6:10 PM. What happens to all those guaranteed a connection????

We are scheduled to be on the #29 from Washington, DC to Chicago on the 5th of August and return on the #30 from Chicago to Washington on the 16th of August. SHOULD WE WORRY. and what to do about it????

Some place on the forum I read that AGR members have access to Acela Club, etc. We are traveling Amtrak in about three weeks....how do you become an AGR member with a card??? Or maybe not.

We are pre-ticketed on the Amtrak from Orlando to Washington, DC. When we get to the Orlando station, do we check into the ticket window or just sit comfortably at track-side and board when the train comes in. Silly question, I know.

When I look at Amtrak Status it sometimes (not very often) shows a train leaving early. Whats up with that......i.e.: today I see the @#97 leave 17 minutes early. How can they leave a station early....or do they know ahead of time no ticketed passengers are coming on board????

Have any of the Amtrak Forum members been on a train involved in an accident......what are the chances???? To my way of thinking....it would be slim to none.....but like driving a car, one never knows.

This is just a thought, but we are already ticketed for our 8-segment trip in August. Two of the segments of the rail-pass are bussing from STP to ORL and again ORL to STP. We have a couple of dogs that we are thinking about boarding at daughters home in ORL for the duration of our trip...

If you travel coach on a "super-liner" like the capitol limited or empire builder......do you prefer the upper seating or the lower seating???? We are booked and ticketed for lower level seating, mainly because of closeness to rest-rooms and easy in and easy out. We feel we can always go up...
