thats a relief, as long as it doesnt happen on a continued basis, I'm fine

if amtrak goes that route, starts shutting down stations, and whatnot, then I may have to just invest in me an RV...one of those would make driving well worth it; alot better than flying, thats for sure

I doubt I would stop riding completely, trust me, and I can understand heightened security at the nations capital...I'm just curious, is that the only place where security has been kicked up?

I just got an email about Amtraks winter getaway special, and got on to read about it. This got me to wondering, since the deal is only good for coach, could I upgrade to a sleeper once onboard?

Thats how I've done it, my last couple of vacations, and they turned out alot better than training to my destination. Also, I find that compromising this way, you dont have to worry about losing a room, or show tickets, etc., that u may have pre-booked.

I've been looking at RCI's website, and it looks like Tahoe would be the best place to stay, right in the center, with a station nearby, the thing is, I might want to go on up to Washington and Oregon. How would the rail pass handle that? Would I have to pay extra?

Not to seem impatient here, but does anyone happen to know just when this new system will be up and running? I'm still waiting on points from circum-navigating the eastern seaboard, back in september.

I rode all over the eastern US back in september, and nobody asked for my ID on the train. The only time they did, was when I picked up the ticket. I dont think it would be a problem, but I'd carry some form of ID, just in case, if I was him.

I had a similiar experience happen, last month, from CHI-FTW, I didnt have water available in my car. I never thought about calling amtrak about it. What grade bedroom did you have? I just had a roomette.
