The partitions in Superliners require a berth key to latch or unlatch them. Every SCA is issued a berth key. To secure the wall in place, you lock the upper latch in one room, and the lower lock in the other room. If some joker of a passenger has a berth key, he can unlock his side only, and the lock on the other side ensures that the passenger in the other room still has privacy. If the train had more than one sleeper, then I would expect at least one SCA had a key with them. If not, then shame on the entire crew!
The berth key's business end has a fixture that is identical to that on a typical "knob" for a garden hose. Any SCA who loses his berth key can pick up a suitable substitute at any hardware store, so there's no excuse.
