I'M ON THE EB!

There was a sweet guy holding a 'connection 7' sign , I followed him & here I am!

Thanks for cheering me on and giving me info.

In the end, the ill-fated Pere Marquette arrived at 2:17 PM and the transferrees were escorted to the Westbound Empire Builder which was uncharacteristically held for 15 minutes.

And JoanieB lived happily ever after.

But is it really... The End???

Now that Joanie has successfully made her connection to the EB I can say that this was one of the most interesting dramas that I have every followed live on the net. Kudos to all with the knowledge to offer helpful suggestions. I had no such knowledge so I kept quiet. Best wishes for a great rest of your journey

Joanie: I see that #7 Departed @ 2:30PM CST (15 Mins Late) so hopefully you're on the Builder kicking back and Watching Wisconsin Roll by! We look forward to your Trip Report as was said! ;)

Update: Just saw the Great News,(my Computer is so Old Mike Dell built it in his Garage! :giggle: )Another Amtrak Adventure Begins, Happy Rails!!!! :cool:

Joanie - SO glad you made it. i was having flashbacks to my last nailbiter connection in NYP and the one before that in CUS. It makes my anxiety go through the roof.

Enjoy your trip on the EB. :)
 
Of course, since the EB was 15 minutes late leaving, it lost its slot and will be two days late into Seattle...

This was indeed a fun story to follow. Great to hear that you made it and that Amtrak was there to help!

I've had close calls in CUS too... That "mad dash" adds some excitement to your trip doesn't it? Ha.

You don't even want to hear about my return connection.

The EB is *supposed* to arrive in CHI at 3:55 & my train, 370, leaves at 4:55

Like that's going to happen :p

Heck, 4 hours was cutting it close!

They sold me the ticket so we shall see.

I have decided that amtrak connections stress me out way too much. They turn a late train into something causes me to have panic attacks.

From now on, I am going to try to do overnights for most of my connections. Or at least just do a connection that is not to a LD train so if I have to ride coach on the next train its no big deal.

That's a good idea. I know that Amtrak cannot control when a train arrives on time or when it arrives late. I understand that. However, in light of this fact it would be very welcome if they chose to allow a stopover on an award passing through a major connection point without forcing us into paying double the points cost. Seems like a relatively minor change that would help both the business and their customers plan for potential problems in a way that avoids unnecessary stress and unpleasantness.

I have noticed that it seems that 'lateness' is more common during winter and spring, from weather, floods, mudslides. I know these aren't the only reasons or times, but just seem to be the big reasons. Anyone else notice this?
