I would like to thank everyone for their input. One more question. Is it safe to walk to the French Quarter from the Quality Inn on O Keefe Street ?

On my way to San Antonio,I will be spending two days in New Orleans. I am staying at the Quality Inn on O Keefe street. I will be coming in on 19. I noticed the hotel was close to the station. Is it a safe walk in the evening from the station to the hotel and vice versa ?

I will taking the Sunset Limited on August 22nd from Lafayette,LA to San Antonio. I will be staying at the Red Roof Inn Riverwalk. Is that hotel walking distance from the station and is it a safe walk at 3AM ? I will be meeting a friend in Lafayette. Any suggestions on good restaurants...

Are there taxi's waiting at the Gainesville,GA Amtrak station when 19 comes in early in the morning ? Also any good hotels in town ? Thanks for any imput.

Over the years I have taken 10 trips on Amtrak's Crescent. The only southern state I haven't made a stop in has been Mississippi. I was wondering which city would be better to visit in Mississippi,Meridian or Hattiesburg ? Any input and thoughts on hotels would be appreciated.
