Try to pack any items you will need in a small backpack or tote/duffel bag and bring in to your roomette.Leave your big bag in the rack near the lower door.This has worked fine for my wife and I on several LD trips.

I really enjoy a 48+ hr trip.You get into the routine and can relax.We have been on all the long Amtrak routes with the exception being the Texas Eagle (soon on the Eagle I hope). We have enjoyed them all.
My wife and I have gone from BOS to PDX a few times and will again in Sept. If you are an early riser the ride across North Dakota at sunrise should not be missed. Have your camera ready.Shoot at a fast lens speed for best results.Enjoy the trip.
