    Segment canceled; what do to

Booked SAN-LAX connecting to Southwest Chief for CHI for January 14, 2017 using points. Looked at reservation and the SAN-LAX portion has been canceled. First of all, I wonder when they were going to tell me about this. No alternative showing. Going to call reservations and see what they...

    Rewards booking - room selection

I want to make a Guest Rewards booking. The question I have is should I make it on-line or should I call to talk to an agent. I was about to make the booking on-line at the Guest Rewards site, but it did not show the room/car number before I clicked 'make booking'. I've heard that it's...

Empire Builder Summer Blues Started Early this year

If 8 is very late getting into Seattle, are sleeping car passengers offered a lunch?

Amtrak vs. Metra (chicago commuter rail)

Metra trains have the walk through between cars on the lower lever, Amtrak superliners have the walk through on the upper level. Bi-level cars sort of look same from the outside but are really designed differently. I think basic ride is the same - it all depends on the track roadbed. Of...

    "Tardy" Empire Builder

Just saw that today the EB is getting into Chicago about 6 -7 hours late. Probably because of the big snows in the upper Midwest. Arrival time is expected to be around 10 pm (instead of scheduled 3:55pm). My question is, "Would the diner stay open for dinner?" Wonder if sleeping car...

Just wondering if anyone knows: Does train # 4 - Southwest Chief - serve dinner in the diner on it's departure from LAX (6:15pm)?

    Breakfast on Texas Eagle

Hi; Thinking of taking the T.E. from Chi. to LVW and was wondering if I decide to pay for a roomette, if I'd get breakfast before getting to Longview, TX. Since this is for a family vacations, I'm pondering if the cost for the roomette is worth if it all we get is dinner. Being only one...

Best Travel Direction on Empire Builder

It MAY depend on if it's summertime or wintertime. In the wintertime it's already dark leaving Seattle eastbound, but usually Glacier is terriffic the next morning as is the Mississippi out to Minneapolis the following morning. I know in the summertime, there is more daylight - both...

    National Train day in chicago

I was there! Didn't get to try any food, but did enjoy the private rail cars. When I win the lottery, that's the way I'm going to travel. My only regret of the day is missing the 'Million Dollar Quartet's' show. ''

    Zephyr Detour Master Thread

Depending on where you're going in California AND your budget, it may be possible to take the Empire Builder to Portland and then connect to the Coast Starlight down to California for not too much more time or money. I would prefer those routes over either the detoured Zephyr or the SW Chief...

    Changing Roomette number

Booked travel using AGR and was assigned Roomette #12. Looked it up and saw that was on the lower level. Wondered if there was a good way to find out if roomettes on the upper level become available and if so, will they make just that change? I don't like the idea of calling in everyday. Any...

    Three in a Bedroom

I'd like to make a booking - probably using AGR points - to have 3 adults in a bedroom. From what I've read on this board, I think it is a valid amount for the bedroom. However, with the size of the 3 adults I'm referring to - me included - I know we could never get all three of us to sleep in...

    Empire Builder views

As you go between LaCrosse, WI. and Minneapolis / St.Paul, make certain you are on "river side" of the train or in the sightseer lounge. If it's wintertime and the leaves are off the trees, it's especially good for sighting eagles and other waterfowl on the Mississippi.
