As well as going by train myself, I enjoy reading travel books. I read a book about an Amtrak journey recently by a British author, Jenny Diski: "Stranger on a Train," which I thought very well written. I wonder whether anyone here can recommend any books which relate to Amtrak (or Greyhound etc) travel?

"Burlington Northern Adventures" by William Brotherton. Not really Amtrak related but it was a very great read about life on the railroad.

The author writes lots of short stories of some of his most interesting adventures while working for BN back in '79 and '80. It was good because most of it takes place in my town, Grand Forks, ND, and I live right by the yard where he worked out of.

Its an easy read. Couldn't put it down.

Oh and Amtrak is mentioned a couple times (to make this Amtrak related)
