There is a great NEC article in the Trains Magazine April 2014 issue. It goes in depth on what needs to be upgraded on the corridor to make sure it handle future expansions and other stuff like that. It is a great read.

Yes, the Trains Magazine April 2014 cover story on the NEC is worth reading for those interested in the challenges facing the NEC. Has high level track and track speed diagrams, number of daily trains over the various segments, lists the recommended projects to get the NEC to a State of Good Repair, quotes & comments from key players.

$2 to $2.5 billion a year over the next 10 to 15 years with contributions from the federal government and the states on the NEC would go a long way in fixing the NEC and expanding the capacity. Really should not be that hard to do.
