Awww, this is very sad. I hope he is found soon so that he can spend the holidays with his loved ones.

The police didn't say why he would be traveling from DC on the Carolinian and then transfer in Charlotte to the Crescent to Atlanta.

The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department said Thursday that Amtrak Police tracked Smith's movements and was able to determine that he purchased a return ticket to Newark, N.J., on Dec. 17 after his arrival in Charlotte. He arrived in New Jersey at approximately 8 p.m. and was assisted into a cab by a New Jersey Transit Police Officer.

CMPD detectives have closed their case, and said the family has been in touch with authorities in New Jersey.
