I cannot even tell you guys how excited I am about this short trip. Tomorrow, I'll be leaving at 11:55am on #1 out of NOL, with an arrival into SAS at 2:28am. I'll be returning as soon as I arrive basically, leaving SAS at 6:00am (scheduled) and getting back to NOL at 8:30pm.
It will be a couple of firsts for me: 1) First Amtrak journey over 10-hours, and 2) First time on the Sunset Limited.
Originally, I was just going by myself, but my brother agreed to join me...and even though he's not really thrilled about it, I think it will do his 17-year-old mind good...get him to experience a real piece of Americana that cannot be found on the internet.
So I'll post a report on the trip when I get back. I'm hoping for fairly on-time trains, but it wouldn't be a big deal if they were late...it would just add to the adventure of it all.
