News story
A man who had been an Amtrak passenger on a westbound train headed for Chicago was found by the tracks Wednesday morning shortly after the train departed from the Rochester station.
Troy Patrick Zabawczuk, 44, of Schenectady was pronounced dead at Strong Memorial Hospital, said Rochester Police Officer Stephen Scott.
Rochester Police Capt. Wayne Harris reported that officers responded to the train station at 320 Central Ave. shortly after midnight for a report of a person injured on the tracks.
...
Scott said officers believe Zabawczuk may have tried to jump onto the train as it departed and that he may have been dragged a short distance. He suffered a severe head injury and lacerations on his body.
Harris reported that Zabawczuk had exited the train temporarily during the Rochester stop. Scott said it appeared that Zabawczuk had been drinking and was being disruptive to other passengers. The conductor did not allow him to reboard the train, which Amtrak said left Rochester at 11:14 p.m.
