fluctuating internet prices

Im planning a trip to from DC to Montana in December. Ive been trying out different dates, etc on amtrak's website to get price quotes. Ive discovered that sometimes i am given a different price for the same route (and date) at different times of the day!. For example, yesterday i could buy my roundtrip ticket for $316.00. Then when i reentered the info in this morning the price was $354.00. Then this afternoon it was back to 316.00

Very strange.

It's the same as the airline systems - a fluid system of availablility. It fluctuates constantly with new bookings and with cancellations - perhaps even additions and deletions of equipment.
