Amtrak 3(11) Southwest Chief w/ Dome 10031 DH westbound 11 June 2017 through Galesburg IL.

Probably transiting to California for summer use. Maybe LA-San Diego for San Diego Comic-Con etc.

God forbid they'd run it live in consist instead of DH. Now let the cacophony begin about extra crew, staffing, probs, never done it that way, etc etc etc. Just sayin.

Built by Budd in 1955 for the Great Northern Railway, Amtrak Dome Car 10031 "Ocean View." At least it's going to the ocean.

Amtrak sure scrapped a lot of nice domes in the day.

It can only be used in service on a single level train, as the vestibule is low level. The only way it could be used on a Superliner equipped train is by using a trans-dorm between Ocean View and the rest of the train.

In addition the Great Dome will once again be featured on certain Downeaster trains in the late summer and early fall.

This posting went up on the Downeaster Facebook Page.

Amtrak’s Great Dome rail car is returning to Maine between August 19 and September 24, 2017. More details coming soon!

Using the Trans Dorm with Superliners means passengers have to pass thru the private crew area and the revenue roomettes to get to the stairs. The car would between the baggage and Transdorm. I just don't see it being used in this ctype consist.
