Where's the like button?
Someone needs to pay for it, then we can have one.
Would it be free for us to use? :giggle:
If it existed, it would be complimentary and used compliments of the free board. But wait, ads help pay for the board. So, is the board free...or are the ads free since I'm not paying to see them?

All of this talk reminds me of my ex so I will dedicate this song, free of charge of course...with my compliments:

I'm floating in the blimp a lot

I feel the feeling I forgot

Swimming weightless in the womb

Bouncing gently round the room

In a minute I'll be free

And you'll be splashing in the sea

I feel no curiosity

I see the path ahead of me

In a minute I'll be free

And you'll be splashing in the sea

We'll hear a tiny cry

As the ship goes sliding by

Free!

Free!

Free!

Wait just a minute. If someone has to pay for the like button before we can have it, then it is pre-paid and not complimentary. :)

I think I'll go with the meme:

I feel congratulations are in order to all posters. Considering that a good answer was #2, by The Traveller, to spin the topic out to over 60 items is impressive! :p

Ed.

Absolutely right, Ed! :) We are really good at that, especially when it comes to food threads! :p

I hope we have not scared off the OP. :( (Really, sometimes we do have short threads! :p )

I had a different view of the $9 difference the young man had to pay to have the steak--I thought it was to his Dad, as a reminder that more expensive things do cost more (yes, I know not in the sleeper, but you get the point), and I'm hoping his Dad will use that money to buy him a nice treat on the Canadian. Only our 13-year-old poster can clear that up for us, but if he is like most 13-year-olds, he's probably long gone and done about 20 other things while we're all still here posting! :giggle:

I was a bit different type of parent. If I paid for a dinner, and my kid picked the mac&cheese over the steak, he would have to pay me the $9 (or more?). It would be a lesson in maximizing returned value.

Same goes if I pay for an all-you-can-eat buffet, and all he eats is two olives.

Not scared off :) I was too busy having a great time on my trip to read and respond. I agree with other posters about requiring the child to pay the $9. That and, just because it's free/included/complementary doesn't mean it doesn't have value!

Thanks for everyone's responses. We were too full from great veggie burgers and chocolate mousse torts! Yum :) Now to plan the next trip. I don't think I can go back to coach after our sleeper car experience ;)

Glad you're still here, minstrel_miss! :) I really like the newest version of a chocolate dessert, too! :)

Now, back to the Mystery of the Where the $9 Went (I've been reading a lot of old mysteries lately.) And here is our clue. In his first travelogue post, our young friend wrote:

"I had the steak. (I had to give my Dad a little extra for it.)"

So I still think he had to pay his Dad $9, but I bet he can get his Dad to buy him a treat in Canada (maybe those chocolates that must be eaten there because they're not allowed here....).

Henry, if you're reading this, let us know!

And back to the original topic, since I have wandered far, far away from it--yes, minstrel_miss, please write a trip report for us. When we aren't traveling, we love reading about other people's travels!

We had a ball! We started in Syracuse NY and arrived late (over night in coach) in Chicago. We spent a few days sight seeing and eating!

Then we took the train (over night in coach) to Memphis for July 4th. It was so nice :) We were particularly struck by the Civil Rights Museum/Loraine Motel. A must see for everyone. Stax recording studio was interesting too.

We hopped back on the train (coach) and arrived early (yippee!!) in New Orleans. A good time was had by all ;)

We especially loved the mardi gras museum and a swamp/alligator tour.

Back on the train (roomlet) to Philadelphia. We loved our experience. It will be hard to suck it up and travel in coach after that!

A few days in Philly, (mmmm...Sonny's cheese steak). A quick trip to NYC, a few hours to relax walking through the city then back in coach to Syracuse.

We took 15 days for the trip and it was just right. Thanks for asking! My husband's co workers thought it was a AAA arranged trip and had no idea there was public train transit. Muggles... ;)

If you take VIA Rail Sleeper Plus/Prestige you get anything you can order, drink, or get, included in the price
That's only in Prestige... Which is super high priced. The standard sleepers are the equivalent to Amtrak... Non-alcoholic drinks in the diner. Coffee, tea, juice, water availble in the park car.

Yep Henry, those drinks are as pricey as the so called "Free" drinks in Casinos where nothing is "Free"! You're better of paying for the Comps yourself, you'll come out cheaper in the Long Run!
Paying several thousands of dollars to ride in Prestige Class on the Canadian is great if you're wealthy, but it's really a waste of money all things considered!( My last trip on the Canadian in Feb. cost $500 CDN for a Section Lower Berth. I paid for my Alcohol ( I did take a Bottle of Bailey's for my coffee aboard) and had all the other perks that the Prestige Class pax get!)
