On a trip from Chicago to L.A. I'm wondering if it's possible to ride coach from Chicago to Albuquerque then switch to a roomette to L.A. If so, how do I book. Would like to do the same from L.A. to Chicago changing from coach to roomette, say in La Junta, CO, for the final night into Chicago.

I was able to do a reservation on the cardinal with an upgrade in CIN. And it didn't effect my low bucket coach fare. So it's possible. I don't know how the agent did it

I do that all the time. It's my understanding sleepers are always booked at the low bucket coach fare (per person), plus a charge for the sleeper berth.

Use the Multi-City option.

I just booked a trip yesterday Oct 17, 18, 19 on the CZ.

Ottumwa (OTM) to Denver (DEN) in coach.

I'll eat diner in Ottumwa before I board @ 6:53 PM.

DEN to Truckee (TRU) in a sleeper.

Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and another breakfast included with the sleeper segment.

TRU to Davis (DAV) back in coach for a bit over 5 hours.

Is the sleeper DEN to TRU substantially less costly than sleeper DEN to DAV? Or do you simply want to ride in coach over the Sierras?
