The following press release/customer advisory has been issued by the Capitol Corridor management staff. This disruption affected Capitol Corridor, San Joaquin, California Zephyr, and Coast Starlate train service today.

Customer Advisory for June 8, 2005

Capitol Corridor Passengers,

As some of you are aware, Capitol Corridor service was suspended today from about 7:45am until 12:25pm at the Richmond Amtrak/BART station due to suspicious packages found on board.

A passenger aboard train 525 acted irrationally and made a series of alarming statements to the conductor. To ensure the safety of the passengers on board, police were notified and a decision was made to evacuate the train and an emergency response team was summoned to investigate the packages left on board.

Amtrak set up a ‘bus bridge’ around the Richmond Station, and transported passengers on board following trains between Richmond and Martinez. The safety and security of our passengers is our first priority, and we apologize for any inconvenience this service disruption has caused. We are doing our best to accommodate those passengers on board our trains this morning, and are working with Amtrak and Union Pacific to get service restored as soon as possible. The tracks were re-opened at 12:25pm.

Please bear with us today as there may be some residual delays and trains may not be running according to schedule until approximately 3pm. Please check the website ‘train status’ report at www.capitolcorridor.org
