    Lacey, Centralia or Kelso?

Thinking about a day round trip before the reroute of the Cascades and Coast Starlight in December. Is there anything of interest near any of these stations to while away a few hours? I'm starting from Seattle.

Seattle trip planning, need a few suggestions

The Seatac Hilton is very close to the light rail station. I felt relatively safe walking between the two in the morning dark (60'ish woman pulling a roller).

    Backpack suggestions

I have a Travelon wheeled underseat carryon, which is great for travelling in a roomette. It fits on the corner shelf, and because of the way it opens it stays on the shelf the entire trip. No need to take it down to remove items. In conjunction with packing envelopes for clothes, it's real...

    Amtrak Cascades 510/517 in Superliner

Explains why I've been unable to book business class on the 510 for a trip in April. I assume it's running with an SSL?

    input on this planned trip?

I'm looking at a trip next spring, early April. Vancouver to Jasper via the Canadian, overnight in Jasper, then the Skeena to Prince Rupert. Fly back to Vancouver. I'm in Seattle, so would take the Cascades to and from Vancouver. Friday appears to be the only departure date from Vancouver...

    PPC in Chicago (4/25/16)?

Agree. I'm five for five the last few years, getting some crappy PPC substitute. I'm from Seattle so I'm sure I'll still ride the CS on occasion, but I don't count on having a real PPC.

Is Phillipe's still the go to place for a layover in LA?

I found the french dip to be adequate, but the french toast outstanding.

    pillow?

It also seems to depend on how new they are. I had new pillows a couple of trips ago that were actually fluffy.

    Winter clothes

Silk long underwear is great for travel. Packs down to nothing, lightweight for layering, and can be used for pj's if needed. It's very warm for its weight.

    Some Humor from George Carlin

Nice post -- invigorating to start the day with a bit of late-Carlin crankiness.

CS-SWC overnight connection now allowed in LAX

It's been there for at least 1-1/2 years. I took that routing in March 2014.

    leaf peeping

I'm planning a circle trip for late september for fall foliage-- Adirondack up, ferry across lake champlain, vermonter back to ny. Any opinions on whether business class on the vermonter is worth it?

Empire Builder Performance Unraveling for the summer Again!

Fast moving and still uncontrolled wildfires broke out sunday in Wenatchee. All freight and passenger service is halted.

    PPC Dinning Question

I tell the attendant that I'm willing to share a table at the time reservations are taken. That way no one's put on the spot by being asked in front of the proposed tablemate.

    Portland, Oregon

    Nice find!

Embassy Suites planned adjacent to Seattle's King Street Station

13 Coins is a Seattle restaurant institution. I think that would the third, maybe fourth location. Open 24 hours, the first open kitchen in town, reliably good. Joe's Special is their menu specialty (at least it used to be, I haven't been in years).

    Coach passengers in the PPC

Last week on the CS the PPC attendant announced several times that she'd sell mimosas to coach passengers. She made a point of saying that it was a special deal, not normally offered. BTW, I'm now 5 for 5 over the last 1-1/2 years of not getting an actual PPC on the CS. Twice it was a...
