Fort Madison and Mount Pleasant Iowa - Ticket agents and baggage.

Last year, the Mount Pleasant Iowa Station lost their agent, but they kept the checked baggage. This year, Fort Madison lost the ticket agent, but they no longer have checked baggage. I don't understand why. On the same note, If Mt. Pleasant can do checked baggage without a full time agent...

    Amtrak’s Black Hawk

I live in Iowa City, and I've never been interested in the Quad City / Iowa City project because the plan never included checked baggage (much less a baggage car). At first, I thought there would be some sort of cabbage car, but no dice. Thanks, but when I have to go east I'll still board the...

On the return (eastbound) trip my GPS clocked us going 74 in the La Junta area, shocking.

    SW Chief questions

I'm riding this train westbound in SE Colorado. I've noticed the track is still pretty rough, still running at 60 MPH. There appears to be a slow order in effect at the site of the derailment at Cimmaron, KS, as we slowed to 45. I thought there were improvements lined up?

Dark days ahead for the Cardinal?

We just took the Cardinal from CHI to CVS. For a track that's about to be downgraded, CSX was doing a heck of a lot of tie replacements and signal upgrades.

Starbucks Express opens in Chicago's Union Station

The Starbucks WiFi works better then the Wi-Fi in the so-called Metropolitan Lounge. They checked us in, and didn't give us the password.

    ACS-64 Heads Up

That's C B & Q Hudson 3001. 3003 is next to the depot in Burlington. When I was a boy, an old timer told me he had one of those Hudsons up to 120 MPH one time!

    AMTRAK should hire this guy.

The way he handled the BART twitter account was spot on. http://gizmodo.com/i-would-like-to-buy-a-drink-for-the-poor-soul-who-ran-t-1765477706

So, I seriously doubt this feed truck owner(s) have the $$ to pay for the damages, but I hope someone sees some jail time.

Southwest Chief Derailed in KS 03/14 early AM

We rode coach both ways on that train over New Years. Some thing about the constant thunk thunk made me wonder many times if a derailment was imminent. I guess I got spoiled riding trains in Germany as a child.

    January, 2016 Monthly Performance Report

I bet it's due to the magical land of Colorado. Around Iowa City, the CZ is now referred to as the dope smokers train.

The schedule still says they accept checked baggage, so are they using one of those coach/baggage cars?

Viewliner II - Part 1 - Initial Production and Delivery

Ok, I'm new around here and I'm a bit confused. I read the IG report linked to above, and I have no idea why this CAF is depending on an unstable supplier. Also, what happens when these cars get older and need replacement parts?
