We can drive to Chicago if we need to we're only 4 hours away We're connecting to the CONO and are going to deal with that bus mess too. If the Zephyr runs like it has been we'll miss the connection. Delaying all together isn't an option and I'm pretty sure flying would be ridiculous pricing...
Does any one know what is causing the Delays on the Zephyr? I know Burlington is flooded but the delays seem to be around Omaha. Is that flooding too? We are supposed to be on it this weekend from Mount Pleasant to Chicago but are thinking about changing to the SW Chief out of Ft. Madison...
We will be boarding the CONO out of Chicago and will have a sleeper car so I know we get to use the lounge going out. However coming back we are coming in on the CONO in a sleeper but are changing after a long layover to coach on the California Zephyr. Will we get to use the lounge for that...
If the Zephyr is still on the alternative route through Iowa due to flooding, I believe it goes over the high bridge in Boone which is really neat but not for those afraid of heights.
So is the train stopping for passengers some place on the new route in Iowa or do they now need to board in Illinois? And how is the SW Chief through Iowa? It runs a little further south.
The weather delay was my best guess too the Midwest has been active these past few days and we did have some downpours in Iowa on Saturday. I figured maybe it move in on to Illinois and turned severe. The trains seem to be on time today so crossing my fingers for next weekend.
Does anyone know why the Southwest Chief 3 was so delayed yesterday? Was it just weather? It left Chicago about a half hour late I think and by the time it reached Fort Madison it was almost 4 hours late. We're going next week out of Fort Madison. I hope it isn't delayed that much. Fort...
I was just looking over the route guide. I know the train goes over the river, but does it go over the high bridge? I'm just trying to mark some of the scenic highlights of the trip on the route guide.
I'm new to trains too, but from what I've been told in general the right hand side of the train may be a little better on the Chief headed west, but it's kind of the luck of the draw which side of the train your room ends up on. We have 2 upper level roomettes going west with one roomette on...
In general Boy Scouts are good kids, but they are teenagers and sometimes have to be reminded about things. My Boy Scout is not going to Philmont at least not this summer, but if there are other Scouts on the train he will for sure be striking up a conversation. He claims he's going to go...
