Sorry to take it away from the Cardinal (again), but this is basically taking the reduced meal service they instituted on the Lake Shore Limited and now downgrading the Silver Meteor to the same service level. Not happy.

I ride Amtrak into/out of Miami about 4 times a year and today was the first time I have ever been delayed in the Miami - W. Palm Beach segment (and I'm not even sure it was due to Tri-Rail). Perhaps I've been lucky. Do you have any reference that would show how often Amtrak is delayed by...

I do wish they would restore the segment of the Sunset Limited from Florida to New Orleans.

Exactly which is why I think it may not have been too wise to have Amtrak and SunRail share the same tracks.

I'm currently riding the Silver Meteor #98 from Miami up to Philly and as we made our way through central Florida we were stopped half a dozen times waiting for one of the new SunRail regional trains to move ahead of us. Amtrak sharing the same tracks with Tri-Rail in South Florida might work...

And my report: Left Montreal about 5 minutes late. Train was "sold out" according to the conductor (though I did spot a few open seats). U.S. Customs and Immigration stop was only for about an hour - great news! But... we had to hold somewhere before Fort Ticonderoga for the northbound...

Getting ready to head over to Montreal station to hop on the Adirondack back to Albany. Yesterday the trip to Albany took 11 hours (over 3 hours delayed). I hope we don't have such bad luck today.

The two areas that were tortuous in terms of slow speeds were from Fort Ticonderoga north to Plattsburgh, and then from Canadian Customs into Montreal. I could see the Canadian portion being able to accomodate faster speeds as a lot of the time we were headed straight and running through corn...

It takes 2 hours? Is that just the "coming to the USA" part or does it also take 2 hours going into Canada?

I've had my meals delivered in a white paper bag. It's a rather large bag, kind of like a Macy's shopping bag. But it's the same silverware and plates that you get at the dining car. Everything's the same.

Thanks for the information. Seems a rather civilized way to clear customs - much better than standing in a long line.
