It seems that all of the eastern LD trains are running at least a few hours late. Of course, the CZ and EB are both around 9 hours late (no surprise there).

Most surprisingly: even the tiny Hoosier State managed to become 8 hours late!

Anyone know what happened?

There is some snow and ice from Chicago through New York. That will usually be enough to mess things with all travel, including Amtrak.

I noticed on the Amtrak Status Archivew website that

29 (18) had a service disruption last station of record was Martinsburg

30 (18) did not depart CHI

49 (18) showed leaving NYP on time then no other station data with a service disruption

48 (18) did not leave CHI, service disruption

What's the deal with that???

Chicago had a mess of a snow storm last night! (I was watching WGN-TV news from Chicago, and 1 employee left their home ~1 PM and walked into the station ~7 PM!

) Today, that storm is in the northeast!

That's why all the schedules are messed up!

30 held at Chicago for arrival of Empire Builder train 8 which arrived at 8:16 over 4 hours late.

Then NS did its usual number on it and delayed it further. # 42 Pennsylvania held in Pittsburgh for 1:45.

# 48 left on time at 9:30 right on the tail of #30 but of course NS did its number on it too. Keep in mind NS is still cleaning up around Sandusky from big

derailment there earlier in week. Speed still restricted.

Another wonderful day in Amtrak land.

It should be said that Ohare and Midway yesterday cancelled well over 700 flights. During the height of the storm on Friday afternoon,it took cars over 3 hours to get from the

downtown Chicago (the Loop) to Ohare a journey that usually takes 45-minutues. So Amtrak did alright under the circumstances.

Freight derailment near Sandusky OH.

And before anyone discovers the issue with 29(19) and asks about it :) - freight derailment near Handyman past Cumberland.

It seems that it will have minimum effect compared to out in the CHI area. Down in the Philadelphia area there is a good maybe 1 on the grass on the streets 1 inch an half. It appears that our township plows were out.

One could hope they were trying to get those trains through to destinations. But if it's as bad as what I've heard on here. Who knows. It looks like 160 is the only train that started in WAS, NYP, SPG, or BOS that is delayed by 30 minutes on the Status Maps. Everything else is about 15-20 minutes late. Which can be expected, 88 is currently 40 behind at WAS. 98 arrived PHL 57 minutes early which was the best it did. It just lost three or four minutes after that. No record on ASM of it arriving at NYP yet.

I was on 2251 this morning from PVD to NYP and we were only a few minutes late. The storm was raging out the window almost the entire time but seemed to subside around sunnyside. When I walked onto 8th ave the snow had stopped but the streets are sloppy. Nice ride today with an awesome FC attendant named Lorenzo.

And why are so many California trains Disrupted?
Could you be more specific? Train numbers and date of departure would help, since the reason may not be same for all. What you are asking is only one step this side of asking "Why are some trains on the Amtrak system disrupted?", in the level of vagueness.

How about todays 42... Left PGH 1hour 43 late and made up about 50 minutes into PHL!! Most of which was made up between LEW and HAR. about 40 minutes was made up between the two and the extra 10 between PAO and PHL. There's about an hour and a half between LEW and HAR and most of the time 42 will arrive at PHL early. Hopefully she'll make up more time into NYP.

One place worth checking for info on service disruption causes is the Passenger Train Board on trainorders.com. In spite of it being a pay site, you can typically see the same day and one day back postings even without registering. You need to pay to get access to the archives beyond that.

There seemed to be a Bermuda Triangle in the Wilmington Delaware area today.

164-problem caused 2:39 delay

154 annulled at WIL, pax to 2212 and 88

143-went into emergency but was able to restart

194-lost 1:39 between WIL and PHL

48(20) boarded late, left on time, ran an hour or two late most of the way, and got into NYP early. 30(20) left late because it got into CHI late. Not sure why 59(20) left late; 22 was apparently on time.

Check this out at Amtrak Service Alerts Page. Could we please at least look at the obvious places first before shooting off questions here?
Possibly people are shooting off questions because all of the items in the link are "Passenger Service Notices", not "service alerts".

Service Alerts tend to be of limited duration and are the result of unforeseen events, such as severe weather, and are issued when needed.
Passenger Service Notices, such as those due to construction projects, are events with more advance notice.
So apparently the delays in question are not due to severe weather.
