What happened to # 51 Cardinal???

Amtrak Train Status reports that 51 is running 2 hours 38 minutes late at Lafayette. It was on time leaving Hamilton OH.

Anyone know what happened?

I know EXACTLY what happened:

it could've been Freight interference, it could've hit a car, a passenger could've gotten ill, a freight train could've broken down ahead, there could've been a broken rail ahead, there could've been mechanical failure.

In short, i have know idea what happened, and any one of the above could've happened, your guess is as good as mine. most likely the first or second one.

BTW, what's the distance between the two cities?

2h 38 m is not a whole lot to get excited about, its probably something minor, i wouldn't worry!

True, not all that late but a 1:04 arrival only left an hour and 11 minutes for anyone connecting with the Empire Builder that departs Chicago at 2:15.

Very true, the Western LD trains dont leave much room for error on the part of the Cardinal.

I have found out why due to a Freight Train crapping out a 130 Car Coal Train.
