BROWNING, Mont. -- In this dusty high plains town, the train station is all but abandoned, its windows boarded up and the paint faded into the same ghostly yellow as the prairie. But twice a day an Amtrak train appears out of the landscape, providing what community leaders say is a vital but endangered link for a string of isolated towns and Indian reservations.
