Yesterday, the eastbound California Zephyr was reported to have had engine trouble after leaving Grand Junction, Colorado and had to have a Union Pacific engine added on. UP 7774 is leading the six-hour-late #6 through Iowa now.
 
#6 was running six and a half hours late at Agency, Iowa. There's also the heritage baggage car AMTK 1159 on the end of the train.

 
In Jan 2015 the SWC lost an engine not long after we left Chicago due to diesel fuel jelling. When we left Chicago it was around 0 degrees....and we had left 3-4 hours late too. For the entire trip to LA we had a BNSF loco on the point.....a 'Santa Fe' loco on the SWC again!!! We ended up about 7 hours late into LA.....but got to go through Cajon in the daylight.
