HAYWARD (KRON) — A man died after being hit by an Amtrak train in Hayward on Sunday night, according to the Alameda County coroner’s bureau.

The train hit the man around 10 p.m. on the railroad tracks near Newhall Street and Huntwood Avenue, officials said. Train No. 748 from San Jose to Sacramento had 19 passengers on board and none of the passengers or crew were hurt, Amtrak spokesman Mike Tolbert said.

That would explain the Service disruption last night...
 
Man, oh, man! What is it with this trains hitting pedestrians? Is it just a bunch of stupidity? I'm hearing about this nearly every week. In fact, 92 hit and killed on the weekend of the Railwatch and was delayed for many hours and passed by in daylight.
 
Education.

Oh, and of course there are fewer trains, and better safety systems (quad gates, etc). But the first item is the most important.

How did the fatalities decrease from 728 to 244 between 1981 and 2015? I figured they'd increase more with more people running the gates and not paying attention.
The only reason it seems more frequent is because the information is much easier to find and spread.
Yup, someone dies in such a way in 1981, it makes the local paper. Maybe.
