Tomorrows the big day for Budget Request

Amtraks board (Bush's Board minus David Gunn) is supposed to announce their proposal for Amtrak in FY 2006 tomorrow. Any ideas on what its going to be? I have a feeling its not going to be good. I hope I'm wrong. If the Amtrak board doesnt want to run the Long distance network, thats going to be a hard thing to overcome.

Obviously it's a hard thing to say for sure, but I suspect that if the board's recomendation is to cut LD's, that they'll have a hard time getting it past Congress. Not to mention that one LD train can't be cut, since the Cardinal is protected by law. As long as there is an Amtrak, they have to run the Cardinal. The senior Senator from West Virginia managed to pass that law several years ago.

If their budget does include no LD's, I wouldn't be surprised to find Congress ordering that Amtrak maintain LD's and continuing the same "let's just get by funding".
