Arriving on Friday night around 10:30 p.m.. Will it be safe to walk to our hotel which is .8 miles away in that part of town at that time or should we get a taxi?

Don't be ridiculous. Of course it's safe. It's Boston. The area to the south of BBY is worse, but you're going to BOS, so you'll be fine.

What hotel?

Boston is a pretty safe city. I wouldn't be concerned around South Station, in the Financial District, in Chinatown or the Theater District, or even south into the Fort Point Channel/Seaport area. I can't think of anywhere else that is farther than 0.8 miles from BOS.
