Hi- Have been on the Silver Meteor several times, but never on the Silver Star.

Are there any major differences except for schedules?

If I'm not mistaken, Silver Star normally runs with 2 Viewliners, Silver Meteor with 3.

The routes are different. The Star goes to Tampa and a bit further west in North Carolina (Raleigh), and it normally runs with 2 sleepers, whereas the Meteor normally runs with 3.

Often the crew is the same. Leo, for example (who is my favorite SCA), works the northbound Star (92) and the southbound Meteor (97).

BTW, I saw Leo in Orlando on Friday while I was waiting for 98 (he was on 97). I was able to say "hi" and get a hug. He wanted me to say hi to Jim and Dave, both of whom he remembers (I wonder why :giggle: ).

Not much difference though apparently the ex-SAL line is slightly shorter then the ex-ACL, but the SS takes longer due to the detour through TPA.

If you intend to sleep, the ex-SAL through the Carolinas -- specifically from Cary, NC to Fairfax, SC -- is considerably rougher than the ex-ACL.
