It looks like Amtrak has released its FY08 traffic counts per city, and I see a nice trend for New Orleans. Of course it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone considering Amtrak's increasing popularity nationwide, but on a personal level, it pleases me to see more people choosing Amtrak to/from New Orleans.

Here's a breakdown of the passenger count totals for NOL since 2004:

2004: 161,449

2005: 147,955 (numbers affected by Katrina)

2006: 103,616

2007: 125,978

2008: 154,532

Nice job!

Very encouraging numbers, indeed ... especially considering that fact that Amtrak still hasn't bothered to restore the eastern end of the Sunset yet.

I was in New Orleans for another visit a couple weeks ago -- it's still one of the most wonderful cities in the country, and deserves all the visitors and attention it van get.

Aloha

am trying to plan a trip and considered going SSL Cono but the connection just not good enough.

Next time I hope
