Train Attendant
Greetings-
Another AGR rules question for any experts:
-I have read the below rule which permits you to take a LATER connecting train on the same day (presumably for the second segment of a two-train connection) but what about taking an EARLIER connecting train - for the first train of a two-train connection. The same net result would be to provide a longer connection between trains, either to allow more protection for the connection, or to spend a little longer at the connecting city, while still not violating the 23 hour connecting rule.
Specific example:
I'd like to go from BOS to MTR. The published routing shows the night owl, departing BOS at 930pm, arriving NYP at 215am, connecting to the Adirondack, departing NYP at 815am. I'd prefer to depart BOS a few hours earlier (same day of departure) in order to get to NYP at a more reasonable hour, get a hotel for the night, and then depart in the morning for MTR.
Could this be permitted?
Thanks
Peter

- Where a published route requires a connection between two segments, a later connecting service may be chosen as long as it departs on the same date as the connection originally offered.
- Where a published route contains a valid connection of 23 hours, 30 minutes or less, an overnight stay in the connecting city is permitted at the passenger's own expense. (Example: one-way travel from New York to El Paso, where the published route requires an overnight connection in New Orleans, would be permitted on the same redemption.)
