I was surprised to find that there is more VIA service between Toronto and Windsor than there is Amtrak service between Chicago and Detroit.
Not surprising. Ontario has (Canadian) federal clout and extremely strong support for passenger train service in general. Michigan doesn't have any federal clout and not much local money and frankly it's not that strong a passenger train supporter (though way better than Ohio).

A (garbage IMO) Detroit-Toledo service is also in the works.

Here's my version, which will hopefully be more useful:

Your version doesn't connect Detroit and Ann Arbor, though. You need the "T" to ensure DTW is included.

From what I heard, they would use CSX from Toledo to DTW (which is between the CN and AARR shown on the map above) and then branch to Ann Arbor and Detroit on the Michigan Line used by the Wolverine (hence why the train is termed the "T"). Interesting plan, but not sure how they're going to find funding (particularly with two states involved - though the South Shore Line does manage that...) Figure Michigan would prioritize Ann Arbor-Detroit before this, and Ohio hasn't exactly been known for funding trains...
