Our first time riding a non-California Zephyr came upon us due to flooding in Iowa and Illinois. We were relieved that AGR could switch us to the Southwest Chief #4 to start our vacation.
Not getting to take the CZ= Bad
Getting to take another Amtrak train- Good!
Taking a train thats 3 hours from our house= Bad
Getting to take a train rather than flying SWA to CHI for $700= Good
Trying to find a rental car to get to KC and "drop it there"= Bad
Finding Avis in LNK was owned by the Avis at KCI airport= Good (no drop charge)
Looking for hotel room in KC on a moments notice in the middle of the summer= Bad
Finding a room only 5 blocks from KCY Union Station = Good
Walking in to above mentioned room at 10:30pm and seeing only 1 queen bed for 4 people= Bad
Hearing the the SWC was "on time"= Good!
Waking up at 6:00am and hearing the "on time" status diminishing= Bad
Sleeping longer and having more time to prepare= Good!
Getting to the station at 9:00am and finding out the train is falling further behind= Bad
Finding out the KCY Union Station is beautiful and full of history= Good!
Finding out there's a cool Irish musuem and being Irish American and finding out about this musuem 10 minutes before the Chief arrived: Bad
Having the Chief arrive with all thats gone on and being 3 1/2 hours late= Good!
