To be fair Amtrak did get a bullet train. What they're missing are bullet tracks. And Vegas did get a monorail even if it's not the most convenient option or the most functional route. There's also a reasonable chance we'll see some sort of high(er) speed train to Vegas sometime the next decade or two. All things considered it's not that absurd and seems more like artistic license to me.
