I'll be in Washington D.C. area shortly staying near BWI and am planning to use MARC to get into the city for sightseeing. Since we want to avoid rushhour in the stations, we'll be taking non-express off-peak services to and from WAS. Does anyone have any idea how fast the all-stops trains BWI-WAS get up to? Do they ever use the electrics for these services? I explored railpictures.net and discovered they do use the diesels for Penn Line services, but am assuming they are pretty much limited to slower non-express trains we'll be using.

Also, any other general tips for using this service?

Thanks,

Matt

I wouldn't worry about avoiding the rush - you'll be just fine, especially in the summer when the loads are a little lighter.

You'll most likely see 90 on the diesels and 110 on the electrics.
