For a long time, I've wondered what was the reason for the Lake Shore Limited, the Capitol Limited, and when it was running, the Pennsylvanian (or whatever it was called),running through the same area between Chicago and Cleveland. I could understand the one train's different schedule. We, the ones that boarded in Cleveland had at least one daytime departure.

Now, wouldn't it be wiser for the Capitol Limited to take the lower route through Ohio (via Akron)into Pittsburgh then on to WAS and the LSL the upper route through Cleveland and then to New York or Boston.

Just an idea.

It is a lot cheaper for Amtrak to run one set of stations rather than two separate sets of stations.

There were some calls for Amtrak to keep the Three Rivers, but have it leave Chicago in the early afternoon, arriving in Cleveland in the evening, and run overnight across Pennsylvania, arriving in New York in the morning.

For some reason, they decided against doing that.

Not to mention that the northern route probably has 2 to 3 times the ridership compared to the 3 Rivers Route.
