You are allowed to travel a shorter distance than you paid for. So if she books WPT-Malta-WPT and it turns out #7 is running too late to make the Malta connection, she should still be able to get off in Glasgow and board #8 there. The only potential bummer would be an unexpected long delay between Glasgow and Malta (e.g. on time at Glasgow, 2 hours late into Malta). Not likely, but it could happen. In that case she would be spending the night in Malta.
