Hello all.

Going on a cruise out of Long Beach.

Taking the train and will take the Flyaway bus to LAX to meet up with family that are flying in. No problem there, have done this before.

When we get off the ship to come home, I am looking at taking a shared shuttle with family to LAX(to save some money). Then taking the Flyaway to Union Station.

My question is...I am sure I will have to go from the Upper level at the airport to the Lower level to catch the Flyaway. I'm assuming the shared van will take me back around to the Lower level or can I get off with family and take an elevator down easily to the Lower level in case the driver doesn't want to go back around? This will be at Terminal 1 Southwest

The fare quote for my van alone, Long Beach to Union Station, was around $100! It would be easier but if I can save a dime. Plus, I have hours to kill before my train leaves at 6.

Also, is it safe for a woman to walk to Philipe's from Union Station during the day?

Thanks everyone!

Taking the shuttle to Southwest terminal 1 and getting off with your group is good and it's easy to get down(yes, there is an elevator outside the terminal along the curbside check-in area) is also easy. I've done it many times. I've ridden the Take Away bus to the terminal and then took this elevator to lower level to catch shuttles to local hotels. I've eaten at Philipe's in the day time and never felt unsafe. I'm a man 73 years old. There are a lot of women along the sidewalks and also at Philipe's.

If you have hours to kill there is an express city bus to Santa Monica and the SM Pier. I did this last summer. Allow about 3-4 hours. Also if you are in sleeper car the Metropolitan Lounge is open all day until the last train departs.

Phillipe's is an easy 2-3 block walk from Union Station. I doubt there will be any problem.

The Flyaway bus runs every 30 minutes from LAX to LAX. Note that when going from the airport, you do not pay when you board, but instead pay once you reach Union Station.
