1. We need a hair raiser for an Amtrak advertising campaign. Being green and Earth friendly was the point all along, so no need to waste ad dollars on that. I want to show that my Amtrak trains can raise the dead, sort of like this fantasy for a 30 sec TV spot: the dark angles are set against a black tornadic sky, a metaphor for our times. The mysterious silhouette of the angled object is not yet identified, until the camera pulls away and we see it's a Genesis locomotive, the engineer in the window a warlock, and the throttle handle is his magic wand that parts the sky in half, enabling the sun to shine down. Best message that trains can and shall save the Earth ever written.
2. If a new Viewliner and/or Superliner car is ever built, something many of us seem to doubt judging by the crawling speed of things, I want Amtrak to mark the monumental occasion upon their delivery by installing a diamond lens on the headlight of the locomotive that pulls the first train with this new fleet. Diamond to be supplied by Smithsonian or other museum curator at the request of the National Railroad Passenger Corporation board and CEO for a grant loan, on the gounds that such delivery is historically significant.
3. As for those who accuse Amtrak being a socialist benefactor of government subsidies, interfering with the mechanisms of free enterprise, well -- free enterprise that has gotten too powerful for their own good (AIG, Bank of America, Toyota, Goldman Sachs, et al) are de factor governments themselves. So, since it is revealed here that all these entities are the same, there should be no resentment, protest, or mental reservation that the U.S. government and state entities do their share of investing dollars for the public benefit. A communist goverment vs. a civilzation ruled by fascist corporations are more similar than many would accept, in that both are controllers/managers of national and world resources, motivated largely by profiteering. If we gave Amtrak management's organization chart a good stiff enema where it counts then we'll have a purified entity empowered to boldly accomplish its mission. And anyone arguing the part about federal money paying for it won't have anything more to back it up with. We SHOULD pay for the upkeep of the reservoirs that hold our drinking water, and also should pay for our national passenger train system as long as the stewards make good faith use of such.
that's all, folks!! (for now)
