Greetings! I'm looking for some info on superliner family sleepers. I know the description states that it sleeps two adults and two children. Would it accomodate two adults and three children (two of them being pint-size children)? If not, would the conductor permit the fifth member of the family to be in the sleeper during the day while sleeping in the coach section at night?

Well, if two of the kids are small enough, they probably could share one of the kids beds. I wouldn't think it would be a problem.

Well, what you can do is book the Family Room for 4 people then buy a seperate coach ticket for the 5th person. They can come to the room during the day and can even sleep there during the night since he/she is just paying the rail fare. The accomadation charge will show up as one lump some on one of the passengers ticket. The only thing I'm not sure of is the person with coach ticket may not be able to obtain free meals from the diner.

Clearfork,

That would really depend upon, would one of the adults want to share a bed with one of the children. The beds for the children are really just big enough for 1 child, unless both children are very small. Small, like less than 2 feet tall and slim.

However you could put the two largest children, who must be less than 4 feet tall, into the two childbeds. Then share the lower adult berth with the smallest child and one adult, while the other adult occupies the upper adult berth.

If you choose not to do that, I can't imagine that the car attendant would not allow you to have all five people in the room during the day. There really is no reason that anyone should stop you from doing that. Mind you that the person riding in coach, would need to be escorted by one of those riding in the sleeper. Also be sure to carry the sleeper ticket stub with you.

Finally, you could consider getting a standard room for the 5th person. Ask for a room on the lower level, so that they can be close to the family room.

Technically, no the coach passenger can't get a free meal in the diner. However if you all show up together and enter the diner from the sleeper side, you might very well get away with it. They usually don't ask for your ticket stubs, they just ask what room you are in.

Yeah, and I have even witnessed a few LSAs that knew what was going on, but were just friendly, and let the other person join in.
