I'll post this separately. We traveled Empire Builder (EB) 18 and 19 May to Chicago. EB doesn't take Surrey Cutoff east of Minot, ND to Fargo, ND, to by-pass flooding in eastern North Dakota, but still goes through Devils Lake and Grand Forks, then south to Fargo. We crossed Churches Ferry Bridge, the critical place on this section of line, at 1 a.m. 19 May. Full moon showed very high waters still on ballast rocks under the railbed at Churches Ferry. Water hasn't subsided much at all. Train traveled across this area at about 5 mph. Very slow speeds in this entire area of track.
