Passing along from the EB Yahoo Group:

The ex-GN bridge over the Red River normally used by the Empire Builder was damaged by a freight derailment yesterday, forcing a detour over the ex-NP bridge a few blocks to the south.

Until this is repaired, the EB must back into/out of the Fargo station and traverse a two-mile, 10-mph connecting track. Delays, from the Status Maps, appear to be on the order of 90 minutes.

Hard to believe that a 90-minute delay is notable this winter after days of 10-hour delays and complete cancellations last year...

Any ETA on repairs?

I guess people are going to be seeing a bit more of Fargo than expected....

Per the original source, a BNSF employee, the damage is now repaired. Trains 8-20 and 7-21 will be the first EBs over the repaired bridge early tomorrow morning.

All EB trains are in the green on the map tonight.
