Diner as the last car on the Capitol Limited

Took the Capitol Limited from Chi to Was on April 8. A Diner-cafe car was just behind the sleepers followed by the lounge then coach cars then lastly a diner. The Diner-cafe was not used. Apparently they were going to use it but it went bad and they stuck a real diner on the end (per our SCA). Unless it died just before leaving, why not fix it in Chi? Dunno.

That is odd. I guess they did not want to delay the train any more if they had to cut out the bad car and cut in the good one.

May depend on what was wrong with it. If the repair involved removal of a major freezer or refrigeration unit, they may have decided removal would delay the train by too much. Too many possible factors & not enough definite info here.
