Looking to travel from CT/NYC area, end of May, to Detroit area, with stopover in Cleveland.

Any suggestions on Amtrak discounts and best routes?

I did some scheduling at Amtrak site, but it seems the trips all travel at nite and we end up arriving in Detroit v. early am (eg 3am). Is this at all avoidable?

Thanks

My timetable shows a 5:55am arrival on the Lake Shore Limited at Toledo. From there, a bus leaves at 6:30am and arrives in Detroit at 7:35.

Unfortunately, if you are planning a stop at Cleveland, that arrival and departure will occur about 3:30 in the morning.

Yeah, you'll have to get off the train in Toledo and take a Thruway Bus to Detroit. Another option is to go all the way to Chicago and catch one of the day trains to Detroit and get there later in the afternoon. Of course you'll be doing some back tracking.

The CL and LSL both arrive into Toledo in the early morning. And arrive into Cleveland even earlier! So if you don't want to get to Detroit in the early morning, as saxman66 said, the only option would be to continue to Chicago and then go back to Detroit.

You would have to use the multi-city page to get that choice to come up.
