The past two days 19 has been substantially late arriving into ATL! Any idea why?

Freezing weather in NY causing problems.

Looks like 19(15) hit the snow/ice south of Washington. It left NYP on time.

19 in general hasn't had great time-keeping over the past few months, especially south of Atlanta.

That link is for the median delays, and average delays are even worse. NS seems to be in rough shape ATL to NOL; maybe the recent track work will help.

Of course, 60 or 90 minutes isn't an epic delay by Amtrak measurements, but when it happens frequently it can't be helpful for promoting ridership.

Yesterday something happened between Lynchburg and Charlottesville. 176 was 2 hours late which is VERY unusual and 20 was over four hours late which is also unusually late - and they came through cvs close together. The weather was very icy at that time - what the weather folks call 'winter mix.'

19/20 delays between ATL and NOL are caused by the convergence of the KCS freight line from Shreveport/Dallas with the NS ATL/NOL freight line at Meridian. If you follow the in route status of 19/20, you'll see the arrival/departure times between Laurel and Tuscaloosa, Meridian being between them, delaying anywhere from 15 minutes to 2 hours every day except Sundays. I guess freight traffic is lighter on Sundays.
