have the roomettes changed any in size in the last few years. a few years ago on the crescent they were rather small for 2 people. how many roomettes and bedrooms are on each sleeper car?

The roomettes are still the same size as they were. Dimensions for them can also be found via the Amtrak page I linked to in the other topic.

On the Viewliner cars, which run on the Crescent and other east coast trains, the is one handicapped room, 2 bedroom (used to be called Deluxe bedrooms), and 12 roomettes (used to be called economy bedrooms).

You can view the layout of the car here thanks to Friends of Amtrak.

Still the same!

The "Crescent" uses the same equipment we use on "Silver Service." The Viewliner sleepers are the sleeping cars. They contain twelve roomettes, two bedrooms (which can be adjoined to a suite), and a wheelchair accessible room at the B end of the car next to the vestibule door. OBS...

Depends on how many years ago counts as a "few." Roomettes used to refer to a single-person accommodation on the old 10-6 Heritage sleepers. At the time, the two-person rooms were called Standard Bedrooms. Now that the Heritage sleepers have been gone for nearly four years, Amtrak decided to rename the Standard Bedrooms as roomettes, with Deluxe Bedrooms simply being named bedrooms.

The roomettes are perfect for one person traveling. They may seem a little tight for two travelers. The bedroom may be worth the extra price.

The trick to the Roomette is to pack lightly with your carry-ons, and get creative with how you situate yourself.
