Most places take a while to respond by email because a) they are busy with the phones and b) it often has to be routed to the correct department. I imagine Amtrak gets a TON of email. It really is best to call and wait patiently. The phone agents aren't having you wait on hold on purpose. Trust me. That's standard customer paranoia. I work in a call center, and we are fully aware of how long the customers have been waiting, but we can't rush the current caller because that's crappy customer service. Everyone waits their turn, and everyone gets full service.
