Hi,

My first Amtrak trip will be from Pittsburgh to Denver (Capitol Limited then California Zephyr) in a roomette. This is part of a longer trip with some specialist activities, so I’ll have quite a bit of baggage. I have evening plans in Pittsburgh before my midnight departure, so it would be convenient to check in my two large cases earlier in the day, and then just go to the station with a small bag with what I’ll need on the train.

Will Amtrak accept checked bags six to twelve hours before the scheduled departure? Will the relevant desk at Pittsburgh (which seems like a relatively small station) be open at that time? If I can’t check them for travel, can I at least store bags at the station and check them when I return in the evening?

Thanks,

Pete

Looks like Pittsburgh is staffed 6:00pm-7:45am and that, other than possible break periods or when actively assisting arriving or departing trains, checked baggage service is available during those hours.
