We will be taking the CL and the SWC from PGH to Santa Fe in Sept. After 4 days in SAF we will take the SWC on to FLG and the Grand Canyon. When we 1st check luggage in PGH, can we check some pieces straight thru to FLG so they will be there before we will? This would especially help with some consumable medical supplies that are bulky but not needed until later in the trip. The baggage would be in FLG 4 or 5 days before we'd arrive to pick it up. Would be willing to pay a reasonable fee for this service.

Yes, you can indeed check some of your baggage through to FLG. Be prepared to show your tickets to FLG to the person doing the checking or they may not want to check it otherwise.

Amtrak holds checked bags for 2 days without charge, but then starts charging for storage after that. So you will most likely have to pay a fee to reclaim your bags since you'll be letting them sit there for 4 or 5 days.

Great. That will make packing more manageable. That's another plus for rail travel - no need to explain to some security guard why we are traveleing with 36 cans of tube-feeding formula.
