June 6 2005, This Morning's Events

Capitol Corridor would like to sincerely apologize to all of the passengers who experienced delays on our trains this morning. We know you depend on us to provide reliable train service, and we are sorry that is not what was delivered to you this morning. Unfortunately, a mechanical problem was to blame for this morning’s dismal performance. Here is what happened:

Train 522 was experiencing a mechanical problem and essentially ‘broke down’ across the switches to/from the Emeryville Station track. Due to the location of the breakdown, we experienced a domino effect of late/delayed/canceled trains. Since train 522 was stranded on the switch, trains 525 and 6 (the Zephyr) were delayed at Emeryville for over an hour. Passengers from train 522 were eventually transferred to train 526, which was then delayed 37 more minutes by the time it got into the Suisun City-Fairfield station. Since 522 ‘turns’ to train 533, train 533 had to be canceled as well.

We cannot apologize enough for this morning’s mechanical problem, and you have our assurance that we are investigating this incident in order to ensure that this does not happen again.

Sincerely,

Capitol Corridor Staff
